- <p> DIED. Ermal Cleon Fraze, 76, inventor of the ubiquitous
- pull tab; in Dayton. Because he forgot to bring along a can
- opener on a family outing in 1959, Fraze was forced to use a car
- bumper to pry open his beer. "There must be a better way," he
- theorized. Last year more than 150 billion cans were opened with
- the contraption he dreamed up.
